Ingredients

Scale

Pizza Dough

  • 1 batch of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade), enough to roll into a 12 x 16 inch rectangle

Italian Meats

  • 4 oz salami, sliced
  • 4 oz pepperoni, sliced
  • 4 oz ham, sliced

Cheese Blend

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese

Vegetables

  • 1/2 cup sautéed bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup sautéed onions
  • 1/2 cup sautéed spinach (optional)

Italian Seasonings

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Others

  • 1/4 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for dipping)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Roll out your pizza dough into a large rectangular shape about 12 by 16 inches on a floured surface, providing enough room to layer your fillings without tearing the dough.
  2. Layer the Fillings: Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Arrange the Italian meats evenly across the surface, then add the sautéed vegetables if using. Finally, sprinkle the mozzarella and provolone cheese blend evenly on top. Add garlic powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
  3. Roll and Seal: Carefully roll the dough from one of the longer sides, tucking the edges in slightly to create a tight roll. Pinch the seams and ends to seal the Stromboli to keep the fillings inside during baking.
  4. Apply Egg Wash and Bake: Place the rolled Stromboli seam side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the top generously with the beaten egg wash for a shiny, golden crust. Optionally, sprinkle additional Italian herbs on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Cool and Slice: Allow the Stromboli to rest for at least 10 minutes after baking to set the fillings. Slice into portions with a sharp serrated knife and serve warm, optionally with extra marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Use room-temperature dough to make rolling easier and prevent tearing.
  • Don’t overfill the Stromboli to avoid leaks and ensure even cooking.
  • If you have extra time, chill the rolled Stromboli for 10–15 minutes before baking to help it keep its shape.
  • Slice carefully using a sharp serrated knife to retain neat slices and avoid squishing the filling.
  • Experiment with different melt-friendly cheeses like fontina, ricotta, or parmesan for varied flavors.
