Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (113g)
  • 1 cup sugar (200g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (90g)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder (50g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Add-ins

  • 34 Kit Kat bars, chopped into bite-sized pieces (about 4.5 oz / 128g)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional) (90g)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a baking pan with parchment paper. Chop the Kit Kat bars into bite-sized pieces and set aside. Measure and assemble all other ingredients for smooth workflow.
  2. Melt Butter and Mix Sugar: In a medium saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter until smooth. Stir in the sugar immediately and mix until combined, then let the mixture cool slightly before adding the eggs.
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat the eggs into the butter-sugar mixture one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract for warm, aromatic notes.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder in a separate bowl. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, avoiding overmixing to keep the brownies tender.
  5. Fold in Chocolate Chips and Kit Kat Pieces: Gently fold in chocolate chips (if using) and most of the chopped Kit Kat pieces, reserving a handful for topping. This distributes crunchy bits evenly through the batter.
  6. Bake and Add Topping: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle the remaining Kit Kat pieces on top for a crunchy finish. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing. This helps maintain their fudgy texture and keeps the Kit Kat pieces intact.

Notes

  • Use eggs and butter at room temperature for smoother batter and even baking.
  • Fold the dry ingredients just until combined to prevent tough brownies.
  • Chop Kit Kats into evenly sized pieces to distribute crunch evenly.
  • Remove brownies from oven when toothpick has a few moist crumbs for a fudgy texture.
  • Let brownies cool completely before slicing to enhance texture and flavor.
