Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning (blend of chili powder, cumin, and garlic)
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (or gluten-free crescent roll dough)
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican cheese blend

Optional Toppings

  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sliced jalapeños
  • Black olives
  • Chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Once fully cooked, drain any excess fat, then stir in taco seasoning and salsa. Let it simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors.
  2. Arrange the Dough: On a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet, unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into individual triangles. Arrange them in a circle with the wide ends overlapping in the center and the points facing outward, creating a sunburst pattern.
  3. Add the Filling and Cheese: Evenly spread the seasoned beef mixture over the wide ends of the dough, leaving the center uncovered. Sprinkle shredded cheese generously over the meat to ensure melty, gooey layers in every bite.
  4. Fold the Dough Points: Take each pointed end of dough and fold it over the filling toward the center of the ring, slightly overlapping the previous fold to seal everything inside.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Place the assembled ring in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Keep crescent dough cold before shaping to make folding easier and prevent tearing.
  • Use a rimmed baking sheet to catch any drips and keep your oven clean.
  • Let the taco ring rest 5 minutes after baking to help the filling firm up for better slicing.
  • Try layering cheese inside the meat mixture as well as on top for extra gooeyness.
  • If dough is too thin or torn, patch with extra crescent dough to prevent leaks.
